Loyola caters for boys from the ages of 3-11. It aims at realising each student's potential whether at scholarship level, entrance level or at a level consistent with the successful transfer into the maintained sector either through the 11+ or otherwise. Each class of twenty five boys will have its own class teacher backed up with ancillery help for reading and for taking small tutorial groups. The essentials of reading, writing and number work are stressed in the lower school but are placed within a balanced curriculum. In the upper school, a greater degree of subject specialisation occurs culminating in the top class with lessons taught in Religion, English, French, History, Geography, Mathematics, Art, Science, Music and Games. Music classes are taught throughout the school and are backed up by the availability of lessons in woodwind, brass, strings and piano and through the work of a choir. The school is affiliated closely with Brentwood Cathedral Choir to which it provides choristers. The official school sports are soccer, rounders, cricket, athletics and swimming and there is the option of extra-curricular coaching in rugby. Every classroom in the school has its own computer. The religious activities of the school are an important part of its Christian ethos. These include a weekly Mass and formal religious assembly. As the School was founded by the Society of Jesus (as part of St. Ignatius College in 1894), it continues to reflect the broad characteristics of Jesuit education. The school has a thriving Parents' Association. The production of concerts and plays is a regular event. National Curriculum assessment is undertaken at the appropriate key stages but are supplemented by the School's own internal monitoring. Parents receive two detailed reports and one grades report a year. There are regular meetings with teachers.
A pre-Kindergarten unit for boys between the ages of 3-4 is available each morning.
